Research on Schizophrenia

About schizophrenia

Our main character Willow has schizophrenia but doesn't know she has it and causes her to do thing that she is unable to understand and thinks things are real when they are just an hallucinations.
We researched schizophrenia to get an insight on the condition and so then we can portray the correct symptoms and experiences that someone with schizophrenia would have.

It is a long-term mental disorder that affects thoughts and behaviour. It can be controlled with anti-psychotic drugs. Schizophrenia affects 1% of the population (up-to 600,000 people in the UK)
Usually develops in early adult hood, between 15-25. The average age of onset in men is 18 and 25 women. It is rare for people to develop it under 10 and above 40 but in very rare cases it does happen.

Experience the sufferer may have:
  • They feel disconnected from reality
  • Feel true sadness or depression
  • Delusions occur, meaning to be obsessed with an idea and have absolute certainty that it is correct
  • Hallucinations- they believe they can hear and sometimes see things that aren't actually there, and cause them to become frightened and in most cases violent.
