Daryl Black is an average Primary School teacher who ends up with the task of protecting his Goddaughter Willow, after she returns from her stay in a mental institute. He is the only family she has left, but he keeps his distance and keeps an eye on her. He is a man of average build. Despite having a limp, he is fairly athletic and can defend himself if situations occur. He has a scar just above his left eyebrow from a fight he took part in 10 years, where another man attacked him with a broken piece of glass. Even though he is still as agile as he was 20 years ago, he keeps his loyal dog, Jack, close by to keep intruders out of his property. Daryl is portrayed as a shady, mysterious man who doesn't let anyone know about his past experiences in life. He enjoys his own company more than in crowds, often spending time alone in his garage. The only thing we learn about Daryl is his how he must protect Willow from the dangers she will face while suffering from Schizophrenia.
