Tricky Shots and camera angles

In Daryl's house/garage

Medium shot of Daryl opening the door, walking in and closing the door (match on action)
- To overcome this i will have to make sure that there is continuity when filming. For example, i will make sure that as we cut the shots, Daryl is walking in the same place and walking through the door on the right leg to make it look believable.
- I will do the same when Daryl is opening the door and walking into his garage but instead of a medium shot throughout the shots I will change it to a close up of Daryl's hand opening the door and then an establishing shot of Daryl and his garage. (Close up of Daryl's hand opening the garage door. Establishing shot of the garage and Daryl entering.)

As you can see in this practice shot which we have edited together Becky is stepping through the door on her left foot as we are filming in the corridor and when we film from the room she is walking in she still steps in using her left foot. We made sure she used the same foot because if not the shot wouldn't look real. We made sure that when filming in the corridor we filmed Becky walking through the door and closing it and the same on the other side. This is so when we begin editing we have more footage than we will need giving us the option to cut it where ever in the shot we will need to make it look real. Also, it stop any continuity issues for if she uses the opposite foot.

Close up of clock, Daryl walks in front of camera and pins photo to the wall.
-I think this will be a difficult shot to film because when Daryl walks in front of the camera i will have to make sure that he doesn't cover up too much of the lens because we will need to make sure that the audience will be able to see what he is doing clearly. To overcome this i will take practice shots from different angles to see which angles work and look the best.

Dissolve to crab shot of Willows feet in ally.

-This will be another tricky shot for me to film because Willow is walking down an ally and i will need to follow her with the camera but this will need to look smooth so i will need to try different techniques for holding the camera to see which will work the best and be more effective.

As you can see in this practice shot of a crab shot that we can't properly see Beckys feet at the beginning of the shot and so we had to re-film this again making sure that we can see her feet properly and then I can tilt the camera upwards so we can see her full body.

We then filmed it again so we could see her feet properly from when she walks into the shot. Making it look more effective.

Focus shot of Willow, reverses to focus shot of Daryl.
-To do this i will have a close up of Willows face and Daryl will be walking behind her but the audience will see him over Willows shoulder following her. The focus however will need to change from Willow to Daryl but i need to make it clear to the audience that we should be focusing on him an not Willow. However we chose this shot because it puts the attention on Daryl but it also shows that Willow is unaware that he is behind her.

Location photos- The House

Location 1~ Daryl's House (Outside)
The first location we will be using is the driveway leading up to Daryl's House. The chosen location provides an ideal average looking house and neighbourhood for Daryl to be living in, which will allow us to create a false sense of normality.
We decided that an Establishing Extreme Long Shot would start our film off well. It will allow us to set the scene of the film, as well establish one of our main characters, who will be walking down this driveway.
We then wanted to follow the character into his home, using Medium Shots. We chose this as it allows the audience to get closer to the character, but also continue this uncertain atmosphere about the character. We then decided to have a Medium Close Up Shot of him opening the door and entering the house. This would then match on action a Medium Close Up Shot inside the house.
Location 2~ Daryl's House (Hallway)
The second location is within Daryl's House, the hallway is very simplistic in order to continue the false perception that Daryl is an ordinary man. The simple layout of the house allows us to keep his character a secret.

The change of location would be shot in a Medium Close Up, which will allow us to establish the character's identity, such as his job (eg. removing his tie).
The next shot would be a Long Shot, allowing us to continue the false sense of identity as we watch him move through his house.

We decided a Medium Close Up Shot would also be good for when our character changes locations again, to continue this uncertainty about him. However, when it came around to film it, we decided that a Close Up Shot of him opening the garage door would be more effective. This would also allow us to include another match on action.
Location 3~ Daryl's House (Garage)
The third location is Daryl's garage. In this location we want to develop Daryl's identity and motives. Daryl uses the garage as his own private space, where he doesn't have to keep secrets and wear a false identity.
For the next shot we wanted to once again establish the room, using a Long Shot. We would use dark lighting and effective music to suggest something sinister about this room, allowing us to develop this character. When we shot this scene, we use this shot but from the other side of the garage, which would allow us to get better angles and create an effective eerie mood.
Initially we wanted our character to sit down in the middle of this Medium Shot, and read through the journal. However, once we started filming we decided that an over-the-shoulder shot of him turning the pages would be more effective, this would be a Close Up Shot.

Treatment 2

Film Title-
Delusion

Tagline-
'A fair face hides a foul heart'

Logline-
Delusion is a character driven psychological thriller, about a young teenage girl who has a mental disorder and goes around killing innocent people. While her godfather, who she doesn't know exists, sets out to protect her from herself.

Duration-
2minutes

Audience-
Age 15+, both men and women who enjoy going to the cinema to unpuzzle the story with both friends and family.

Synopsis-
Daryl Black, a typical primary school teacher who is returning home from work. He heads into the house, takes off huis tie and goes straight into the garage. He takes a key stuck to the side of the fridge, unlocks the file and pulls out a journal. He flicks through the pages looking at each person with a big red cross over their picture, untill he reaches one without a cross. The page is of a young girl: Evie, he writes her name next to the picture in blood red ink. He pulls out a loose picture of Evie and pins it to the wall next to a clock over an unknown girl. Daryl puts on his coat and leaves the house, in what looks to be a hurry.

Willow a teenage girl, is walking down an alley alone listening to her mp3 player, not knowing that Daryl is following behind her. Daryl speeds up and looks as though he is about to attack Willow, but another girl, the girl from the picture, comes out from the side of the alley and has a stone in her hand staring at willow looking as though she, is going to attack willow with the stone. Daryl quickly strangles and kills Evie and attempts to hide the wire and pick up the body.

Willow realises she can't find her keys in her bag and figures she must have dropped them and so turns round looking for her keys on the floor. She sees them on the floor and goes to pick them up, but sees murdered Evie on the floor and a man whos face she did not recognise staring straight back at her in shock. Daryl drops the wire out of his hand and shouts, 'Willow.' Willow also stands in shock staring at what she has just seen, but she turns round with her keys and runs as fast as she can away from the scene.

Suggested elements-
The thing that makes our first twon minutes different is that we have a big event happening very quickly, and the titles happen 2minutes into the film not straight at the begining. Also we are unsure who the protagonist is firstly we think it is Daryl but then think it may be Willow.

Logline-
Delusion is a character driven psychological thriller, about a young teenage girl who has a mental disorder and goes around killing innocent people. While her godfather, who she doesn't know exists, sets out to protect her from herself.

Duration-
Full film, 90minutes

Audience-
Age 15+, both men and women.
Our film will need to be a 15 due to strong violence and suggestive themes to do with death and murder. The audience that this film is aimed at enjoy going to the cinema to unpuzzle the story, they will have a laid back lifestyle and enjoy the cinema for a good night out with friends and family.

Synopsis-
Daryl Black, a typical primary school teacher returns home from work and goes into his garage. Pulls out a journal and turns to a page with a young girl; Evie. He pulls out a loose picture of Evie and pins it to the wall next to a clock, and a picture of a woman, his goddaughter, willow. He pins the picture of Evie over another, unknown girl
At 12 O'clock Daryl goes towards a dark ally to follow Willow who is by herself and is unaware that Daryl is following her. Evie walks out into the ally and Daryl quickly strangles and kills her with a wire and quickly hides her but Willow drops her keys, sees and stands in shock. The night of Evies murder Willow cannot sleep and stays in her apartment all weekend as she fears she is being watched by a hooded man.
For the next few weeks she isn't bothered by the hooded man, however one morning when she leaves her apartment to go to university and notices that the hooded man is watching her apartment but she continues on her way to university. During a lecture, she begins to hallucinate where she sees everyone around her become the strange man, she panics and runs home to find the hooded figure from her hallucinations is still outside her apartment.
Looking out from her window she is grabbed from behind by a different hooded man. He pulls out a knife but Willow manages to take it off him and stabs him until he gives up. She pushes the intruder over the edge of her balcony and the other hooded man sees and runs to hide the body. Willows thinks the two men were working together to kill her.
Over the next few days she has a serious of hallucinations where she thinks everyone is out to get her and either attacks or kills them. The hooded man always disposes of the body so she thinks he is sending the 'attackers' to her. She plans an attack on him for the next time he sends a killer.
On her way to university she sees and hears people planning to kill her however once again it is a hallucination.
Later that day while walking to her next lesson an old friend walks into her and Willow instantly thinks she is her next attacker and follows her throughout the day.
On the way home in the alleyway she grabs the girl and drags her to the floor. The hooded man intervenes to stop the attack and lets the innocent girl escape. Willow turns and starts attacking him violently with stones and anything else she can use.
Daryl gives Willow his journal, before he dies, from his bag that has information about her past and photos of other people who she recognises from her 'dreams'. She falls to the floor as she learns that she has just brutally murdered her only family member. Voices in her head tell her that the only way she will be forgiven is to kill herself. She picks some rope up she has hidden in her appartment in case another intruder was to come and kill her and ties a noose from her curtain rail. Before she jumps she see's Daryl in a hallucination and speaks her name.

Suggested elements-
The things that make our film different is that our antagonist is a woman and in most films it is a man. Also our main character, Willow, has a mental disorder that drives her to the edge and the film shows how severe this can be.

Budget-
An average budget that is suitable for us.

Genre-

Location Photos- The Alley

Alley in Redbrook- This is the Alley we are going use for the scenes with where Daryl kills Evie and Willow sees.

This part of the alley is very dark at night and could be good for when Daryl is sneaking behind Willow. However behind this photo there are lots of houses which could be disturbed because we could be filming late. There also isn't a place where Evie could come out so this may not be suitable for our film. (The photo below is of the bottom of this path.)

This is another part of the Alley it is dark and has two paths crossing over which would be perfect for Evie to come out and get Willow. It is also away from any houses that could be disturbed. However if the lighting on the night of our filming isn't right we can't use any lights because there are no plugs, so we may need to do it earlier than we first thought.

This is the left of the alley path it comes from the top of the field.

This is to the right of the Alley it leads to the rest of he estate and has lots of houses.
This is the main bit of the path where Willow will be followed by Daryl. There is a big field to the right of the path that is very dark and would help make the scene look deserted and scarily lonely.

This will be where Evie comes out and walks in front of Daryl to try and kill Willow. It is good because the paths cross making a good reason for Evie to come out here also it is away from most houses and makes it look secluded.
I think this is the best side of the alley to film from because then we can see Evie coming from the other directions. We would also be able top do lots of different kind of shots e.g. long shot close up and medium.

Film Ideas

Film Title and Strap Line

We decided to call our film Delusion because we wanted our title to relate to our main character, Willow who has schizophrenia. However, we didn't want our title to give away her secret so the audience can work it out as they are watching the film.

Our strap line is A Fair Face Hides A Foul Heart... We chose this because even though she looks to be a normal, innocent girl she has a hidden past of murder and torture.

Our production company is Golden Pumpkin Productions

Target Audience

The certificate for our film will be a 15 so our target audience ranges from 15+ aimed at men and women. This is due to the genre of the film which is Psychological Thriller.
Our film contains strong violence and language and psychological themes which would be unsuitable for a person under the age of 15.

In the first 2 minutes of the film, we see a girl being grabbed by a man and brutally strangled with a wire and is struggling to get out of the mans grasp but she is too late. And this would be unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15.

Throughout the rest of the film, if we were to film it, the main character, Willow is having hallucinations of people planning to kill her which involves strong language and younger viewers may not understand why she is having hallucinations and so they wouldn't understand the story of the storyline of our film and it woudn't be appropiate for them to watch for this reason.

There are scenes of blood and gore, for example, when Willow pushes one of her attackers over a balcony after stabbing him repeatedly with a knife that he had brought to kill her and this may scare anyone under the age of 15.

Here is a link to the BBFC guidline for the film certificate '15'

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/classification/guidelines/15-2/

As you can see if we were to complete the whole of our film, the film certificate would be a 15.

Final Draft- First 2 Minutes

book with blood red ink at the top of the page. He pulls out a loose picture of Evie and pins it to the wall next to a clock, and a picture of a young woman, his Goddaughter, Willow. He pins the picture of Evie over another, unknown girl.

At 12 O'clock Daryl goes towards a dark ally to follow Willow who is by herself and is unaware that Daryl is following her, she is listening to some music. Evie walks out into the ally and Daryl quickly strangles and kills her. Daryl hides the wire he used to strangle Evie, as he attempts to move the body, Willow turns around because she realises that she has dropped her keys and see's the murdered Evie on the floor and a man who's face she did not recognise. Schizophrenia research contiuned...

How Schizophrenia relates to and affects Willows life.
Schizophrenia tends to develop between the ages of 18 and 35 (for women). But in some extreme cases such as our main character, Willow, it can develop from an extremely early age.
Schizophrenia has two different types of symptoms: positive and negative. Willow showed signs of negative symptoms...
When Willow was a child she used to play just like other children but her parents abandonded her and put her in a childrens home. When she was about the age of 5, her carer realised that she began to stop any conversation as often as she could and she would keep her distance from most people, including her friends and would lose concentration quickly. She didn't want to go to her school or leave her room, she wouldn't play with her toys and resisted any contact with her friends at the care home. She would get bored extrermley quickly and she would start screaming and began having violent attacks if any body tried to calm her. After, she couldn't remember any thing she had done because they were like dreams to her.
Doctors say that people who suffer from schizophrenia may sometimes find it difficult to distinguish their own thoughts and ideas from reality and if the illness begins when the person is a child the illness the illness can be 20-30 times more severe than in adults. When Willow is older, because of her 'dreams' she does not know that she is committing any crimes. She believes that her hallucinations and delusions are just dreams and not reality. But as the story develops her thoughts become muddled and she cannot tell what is reality until she finds out that she has Schizophrenia.
